Why do the layouts and albums cost so much?
|
Most people might tend to think the cost of custom scrapbooks seems high at first glance. However, please take into account not only the price of scrapbooking supplies (not inexpensive) but also the TIME it requires to create these layouts. I am quite a detailed scrapbooker and a true perfectionist. It may take me several hours to complete one single layout. If you were to convert that into how much I am earning per hour, you will find that the price is very reasonable. I have also researched several similar companies, and my prices are lower than most competing companies out there. Besides, who can put a price tag on the legacy we leave to our ancestors?

Why do I even need a scrapbook?
|
Perhaps no one actually NEEDS a scrapbook, but why would you WANT a scrapbook? Not only is a scrapbook a wonderful and beautiful way to show off the photos of the significant events and people in your life, it also acts as a family heirloom to pass down to generations. Photos alone do not tell the STORIES of our lives. Scrapbooks express the details, memories, and feelings of the stories of our lives.

How do we get started and what happens throughout the process?
|
The first step is to use the contact me form to let me know you would like a consultation and give me a idea of what kind of project you desire. If you live within 30 miles or so, I would be glad to meet with you in person, but this is not a requirement. We can communicate easily through phone conversations and e-mail. We will determine your ultimate goal and the best process to use to get you there. I will help guide you through the decision process for the best package for you. These consultations are complimentary and require no commitment on your part.

How do I get you my photos and memorabilia?
|
There are several methods that we can use to transfer your items to me. If you have only photo prints, you can simply mail them to me. If you have digital prints, you can either e-mail them or send them to me on a CD. I STRONGLY recommend that you keep either a copy of the photo print or memorabilia, the original negatives, or the digital file associated with your photos.

How long will it take for my project to be completed?
|
The answer to this question will depend on the size and scale of your project. A Deluxe Album package will take up to 4 weeks to complete after receiving your photos. If you have a particular deadline, please let me know and I will work with you if possible to complete your project by that time, though a rush project may incur an extra charge. I usually prefer to work at my own pace so that I can ensure all elements and photos are perfect.

What if I don't like the end result?
|
During the entire design process, we will be in constant contact. As I finish each layout, I will e-mail you a digital photo of the layout for you to either approve or suggest changes. My primary goal is that you are happy with your project. These projects are made custom for you per your specifications, so if a layout does not meet your expectations, please let me know as soon as possible.

How many photos can fit on a page?
|
This can vary depending on the size of your page and whether or not you allow me to crop and resize your photos. Typically a one page 12x12 layout contains 3-4 photos, but I have included several more by creative cropping.

Will you alter the photo prints that I send to you?
|
Unless you desire otherwise, I will crop and utilize your photos to best fit the page and feel of the layout. This is why I always advise you keep a copy of the original. If you want each photo kept unaltered, please let me know and this can be arranged.

How do I get the journaling on my pages?
|
For the "Basic" packages, I simply leave a blank journaling box for you to fill in later (your own handwriting is suggested, as it is more personal). In the "Deluxe" packages, you have a choice of one paragraph of Computer Font Journaling or journal boxes per layout. You will need to estimate the size of the journaling box you will require.

What is journaling?
|
Journaling is used in scrapbooking to "tell the story" of your pictures. When you're determining what you would like to journal on your album pages, consider the details that you might forget years from now. Journaling may include but isn't limited to: a summary or story about the events taking place in your pictures, the names of people, pets, places, specific dates, a poem, a special saying or a suitable quote. Hand writing your journaling adds a very sentimental touch to your album. Reading a handwritten letter from someone you care about is more personal and intimate than reading a typed one. Journaling is very important to some people and others may choose not to include any journaling on their pages. It is a personal preference and ultimately your decision whether or not you wish to include journaling in your project.

How do I know what size album would be best for me?
|
12x12 album: A 12x12 album is great if you have lots of pictures to include in your scrapbook. This is the most common size for a general family, heritage, or wedding scrapbook.
8x8 album: An 8x8 album makes a wonderful gift and is just the right size for a "special event" album to remember an anniversary, holiday, special pet, etc.
6x6 album: A 6x6 album is a nice size if you don't have a many pictures to include. They make fabulous gifts! A 6x6 size makes a great "brag book" for a parent or grandparent!

Can I receive a discount if I provide my own scrapbooking supplies?
|
Yes! Fairy Dust Memories will deduct a set amount for each sheet of paper you provide as follows:
Solid or Patterned Papers:
12x12 - $0.50, 8x8 - $0.40, 6x6 - $0.25
Cardstock, Textured, or Specialty Papers:
12x12 - $0.75, 8x8 - $0.65, 6x6 - $0.40
FDM will also deduct for other supplies provided:
Basic Scrapbook Stickers:
$1-$3 per sheet (depending on size & type)
Deluxe/3-D/Embellished Scrapbook Stickers:
$2-$4 per sheet (depending on size & type)
Adhesive:
$1-$3 per adhesive(depending on size & type)
Other Embellishments:
Amount deducted will vary based on type, amount, etc.
